Ephesians 6:12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood but against the rulers, authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
In the above scripture, we know that there is a war going on. This war is mainly because of our salvation. When a person is in Christ, the devil would want to do everything possible to get them back into darkness.
This is why the devil uses strategies and devices. Our ignorance of these devices would lead us right into the trap. In this excerpt, we’d look at Ephesians 6:14-17 which talks about putting on the armor of God to stand firm. With that scripture, you’ll see that all we need to win this battle is the Word.
First, the belt of truth.
John 17:17 says, “Sanctify them by your truth for your Word is truth.”
Second, the breastplate of righteousness.
Psalm 119:172 tells us “God’s commands are righteousness.” And we know that God’s command is His Word.
Third, shoes for readiness of the gospel.
The gospel, also the Word, is the message of Christ that brings salvation. Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile.
Fourth, the shield of faith.
Romans 10:17 : And faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the Word of God. The Word of God is the raw material for building faith.
Fifth, the helmet of salvation.
Romans 1:16: I’m not afraid of the gospel, for it is the power of God unto salvation. Salvation comes when we hear a message and by that message, we apply faith. According to Acts 4:12, “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.” This means salvation is in a name and that name is Jesus, who is also the Word made flesh. Proverbs 18:10 The name of the Lord is a strong tower; The righteous run to it and are saved.
Finally, the sword of the Spirit.
Hebrews 4:12 says, “For the Word of God is alive and active, sharper than any double edged sword….”
The Word is sharper than a double edged sword because it’s a sword that has many edges, dealing with all issues regardless of the ones that seem impossible.
So, you see that the Word is the whole armor that was being talked about. It’s necessary to have the Word in your heart so that you don’t fall prey to the devices of the enemy.
What are these devices?
1. Lies /deception– The belt of truth is needed to deal with this.
2. Unrighteousness– The breastplate of righteousness deals with this.
3. Doubt– The shield of faith is needed.
4. Condemnation/guilt– Helmet of salvation.
5. Lust of the flesh– The Sword of the Spirit is needed.
Once we are ignorant of what the Word says about us, we are easily taken advantage of. We would not know our worth and live in deception, guilt and doubt when God has made everything available in His Word.
