Isaiah 54:13 And all thy children shall be taught of the LORD; and great shall be the peace of thy children.
The scripture reveals something profound and it’s the fact that the Lord is a teacher. This opening verse says that your children will be taught of the Lord and it got me thinking. God gives children to parents so those parents can raise them in the way of the Lord. Proverbs 22:6 states; Train up a child in the way he should go. When he is old he will not depart from it. The Amplified version puts it this way: Train up a child in the way he should go [teaching him to seek God’s wisdom and will for his abilities and talents], even when he is old he will not depart from it. Parents must teach and train their children in the right way. However, the Lord must also join in this training and teaching. This is because no matter how good a parent is, there are things only the Lord can teach a person. It’s a broken world and truly we don’t have perfect parents. Some parents are good. Others have been terrible. Many have even traumatized their children and handed down evil to their generation. This is where the teaching of the Lord comes in. There are real life stories of people who never turned out like their parents even though they grew up in a toxic environment or family.
The Lord can raise a person to be distinct and not look like where they have come from.
To break this verse down, let’s start with who the Lord is. If it mentions that your children shall be taught of the Lord, we must know the Lord. In John 14:26 Jesus said, “But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.” This means the Holy Spirit is that teacher. How do we confirm again that the Lord that was spoken about here is the Holy Spirit? We see it again in 2 Corinthians 3:17 Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. Also in John 16: 13 we see that He guides us into all truth. “But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.“
This scripture is not just about parenting a child. You can also declare daily that you are taught of the Lord. Speak that He teaches you all you need to know in each season of your life. I discovered something recently and said to myself;
May I not get to know what I need to know when it’s too late.
With the discovery, I was wondering why I didn’t know and apply what I had discovered now, even two years ago. However, I was grateful that I found it out.
As you get older and more independent, you can reach a place where very few people can correct you. This often happens when you err. Yet, when the Lord is your teacher, He brings any mistakes to your attention immediately. Having that relationship with the Holy Spirit is key. It is especially crucial when you are on your own. You are paying your bills and taking care of yourself. In such situations, you can easily not be accountable to anyone.
The teaching of the Lord also brings a much deeper conviction in your walk with the Lord. It makes you even bolder because you received that insight from the Lord. To build deeper roots and stand the test of time, the teaching of the lord is vital. Teaching is what stabilizes person. When you see a Christian who can be tossed to and fro by every wind of doctrine, you know they are not taught.
Seek to be taught of the Lord every day of your life.
