A Faithful God

A Faithful God

Deuteronomy 7:9 Therefore, know that the Lord your God, He is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and mercy for a thousand generations with those who love Him and keep His commandments.

If there is anything to note about God, it’s His faithfulness. God’s faithfulness is a description of his constancy regardless of external forces or changing seasons of life. That God remains true to what He says despite the attitude of man. What the devil wants is for us to doubt this faithfulness of God. Every time we chose our path, we despised what God wanted. We doubted His ability to stand by His Word. The opening scripture mentions how God is generational in His faithfulness. It unlocks something that many people have had questions about, but they don’t have a clear answer to.

Have you ever seen someone who you thought was not really a good person? They don’t serve God or pray like you. Yet their life seems easy and with less struggle. Many times, we don’t have the full story. We come up with all kinds of theories. Sometimes, it is that those people are enjoying blessings from what their predecessors did for the Lord. Even though they are not serving God, they are blessed.

The constancy and faithfulness of God ensures that nothing done for Him goes unrewarded.

Even if the parents didn’t enjoy every benefit of their service to God during their lifetime, it continues with their offspring. The advantages of their devotion persist with their descendants. This principle of seed is a powerful concept in this life. By one man’s sin, all people received the nature of sin and by another Man’s sacrifice, we have the life of God in our spirits. Romans 5:19 For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.

This teaches us to be mindful of our actions in life. Future generations will experience the consequences of the life we lived. When people say, “It’s my life and I can do what I want”, they haven’t understood this. Your life belongs to God because He is the Source of your life. Additionally, your life is also for your descendants. You are creating a pathway for them with that life. Some people never knew what a broken marriage looked like. This is because someone in their ancestry created that pathway. Others never experienced poverty because a predecessor created that pathway.

Going back to the person who is not as prayerful as you but seems to be doing well. You don’t have the full story and they could be having struggles you aren’t privy to. The goal is to focus on your walk with God and avoid comparisons. If they are reaping the benefits of what their predecessors did, it will now be left to them, through the life they live, to also create a pathway for their seed.

Many developed countries today may not give priority to God but are doing well in technology, media, infrastructure, and economics. Yet, if you look into history, you’d see that these nations were once godly. The usage of godly principles brought them to that place of progress. They may not recognize it, but the principles are working. The United States, for instance, had missionaries who spread the gospel to many parts of Africa. The Lord has kept His covenant because of service to God through missionary work. He is faithful to the seed of those missionaries. This is true even though their seed may be ignoring God today.

God does things with generations in mind and we should too.
