John 8:32 Then you will know the truth and the truth will set you free.
Why should we know the truth? So that we can be set free. This means that the absence of truth enslaves you or keeps you in bondage. A lot of unnecessary struggles are a result of not knowing the truth about a situation. I remember when a friend introduced me to speaking positively about my life and making confessions about my academics. As I started, I began to see results. While I was going to write a test, I said this would be my highest grade in this course and I had a 100%. So all this while, I had my success in my mouth but because I didn’t understand the truth about spoken words, I couldn’t experience miracles in that aspect.
Paul said in 2 Corinthians 2:11, that we are not ignorant of his devices, lest he takes advantage of us. Anytime you don’t know the truth, you are taken advantage of, robbed, abused, and tossed about. After I grasped the truth about menstrual cramps not being of God, it ended. And the amazing thing is that I didn’t pray about it. That is why we are told in Ephesians 6:14 to stand firm with the belt of truth buckled around the waist because one of the devices of the enemy is deception and it would take the weapon of truth to prevail. Most people say it’s normal for every woman to experience it but I had to exempt myself after knowing the truth.
Because the enemy knows that truth would expose mysteries, and as you walk in truth, he has no power to deceive you, we are in a world where most people don’t like to read, research, or seek knowledge for themselves. And as believers, the manual we must study is the Bible. It is with the written word, that the spoken word comes to us. God will only instruct us in the direction of the written Word. John 17:17 says, “Sanctify them by your truth; your word is truth.” In verse 31 of John 8, Jesus said: If you abide in my Word, you are truly my disciples and then He moves on to say; and you will know the truth. There are many voices presenting themselves as truth but abiding in God’s Word makes you able to distinguish the truth about God from all those other voices.
When you have insight into truth concerning a field, you have control and are a master of it. In order to see amazing results in our walk with God, we must know the truth about Him. Do you know that there are people walking in deception about God even though they are in church? John 4:24 says, “God is spirit and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.” This means there are people worshipping in falsehood. We must serve God in truth, knowing the truth about who He really is, and through that our faith is going to be effective.
Philemon 1:6 states this clearly: That the communication of thy faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus. The moment you acknowledge what is yours in Christ and walk in it, the expression of your faith is effective and you bear good fruit. It becomes very difficult to tell someone about Jesus Christ when you personally don’t even understand what you’re into. When you serve God without knowing what you have in Him, you end up missing out on what you could have enjoyed. Coming to that place of acknowledging or discovering truth requires a personal initiative.
You would have to seek God and then He would be found. You would have to draw nearer and then He would come closer to you. John 14:6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” John 16:13a But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. If we want to know God and discover the truth about Him that would make our walk with Him fruitful, then we need to acknowledge the Lordship of Jesus and seek His Spirit daily.
When you don’t know someone, it’s impossible to know what you can do to win their approval or favor. When you know God’s way of doing things, you even know the right prayers that get answers. The truth you know about God determines the kind of relationship you have with Him.
What you don’t know, you can’t put to work and see change.
