2 Corinthians 5:20 We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God.
From the scripture above, we are Christ’s ambassadors. In other words, we represent who He is and what He stands for. Many people fill out forms and say they are Christians. Others write things like, ‘Jesus girl’ in their bio but when you see their posts after, you wonder what’s going on because there’s a contradiction. Someone may even post scriptures daily and yet not be reading their Bible in real life. In all of these scenarios, the most important thing is to represent Jesus the right way.
I heard someone say that Jesus is good but He has bad PR. PR stands for public relations and is simply the way information about a person is managed and disseminated to the public. The question here is; Which kind of information are we passing on to people about Jesus? We pass information to others based on what we say and what we do. Both have to merge at some point because we can’t say one thing and be doing another. Usually what we do speaks more volumes than what we just say with our mouths.
1 Peter 2:9 But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. So we are all of these things to show forth something. Not sing or talk per se but show it forth. That has more to do with action than words. There are things we can’t afford to do just because we soil the name of Jesus when people see us do them.
This journey has more to do with God and others than with ourselves. When people keep saying Do you, do what makes you happy, or be yourself, it can be a selfish way of living. I have realized that if I want to do what makes me happy, it wouldn’t be funny. It would be a lot of wickedness and evil. To be honest, I would have insulted some people or even murdered them by now because people can be very annoying. Because we represent Christ, we no longer live for ourselves but for Him and take into consideration how we treat others.
The world is in confusion today and many people have lost trust in God mainly because of the way most Christians have represented Him. People were hurt, offended, and treated badly by those they thought should know and do better – some church members and some Pastors. We are a work in progress and we have issues we are all dealing with but God desires that we grow daily and become better at representing Him.
Jude 1:3 says, Dear friends, although I was very eager to write to you about the salvation we share, I felt compelled to write and urge you to contend for the faith that was once and for all entrusted to God’s holy people. To contend for the faith and represent Jesus better, we cannot be ignorant of the one we are representing. Knowing Jesus and living by His principles would make our lives a testament to who He is, that we may not even have to say many words but by our attitude and lifestyle, people are drawn to Him.
A good representation of Jesus depends on the depth of knowledge we have of Him that affects our character.
