God’s Building

God’s Building

1 Corinthians 3:9 For we are co-workers in God’s service; you are God’s field, God’s building.

Based on the opening scripture, we know that we are God’s building. Our lives are a building God is constructing. When man fell and Jesus had to come in to restore that lost image, the building began.

Philippians 1:6 Now being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.

Like every building, there must be a beginning and a completion time and so God has in mind how He must work on us to be complete on the second coming of Jesus. Do you remember that 1 Corinthians 6:19 says; Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?

We are God’s building and his dwelling place and if He dwells in us by His Spirit, we need to make that building conducive for Him. He expects that this building would be filled with good things and would undergo positive changes which would cause it to remain firm.

These positive changes would occur as we grow our relationship with Him just like a house or building must undergo renovation, cleaning up, and maintenance often.

Proverbs 24:3-4 makes a profound statement. By wisdom, a house is built, and by understanding, it is established; by knowledge the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches. Since we are God’s building or dwelling place and a house is built by wisdom, our lives are going to be built by wisdom and filled with pleasant riches by knowledge.

No wonder Paul said in Acts 20:32 that I commend you to God and to the Word of His grace, which can build you up and give you an inheritance among all who are sanctified. It means that all we need to build our lives is in the Word and as we look into the Word, we would be better established and have a firm foundation.

1 Peter 2:5 states that “you also are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.” So, it’s a process that’s going to take time. God is working on each of us and we only give Him that opportunity by taking His Word daily and living by it.

Joshua 1:8 mentions meditation on the Word day and night so that we can have good success. The last thing anyone wants is to fail at the construction of this building (our lives). Looking at the concept of having a good foundation, 1 Corinthians 3:11 says “For no one can lay a foundation other than that which is laid, Christ Jesus” and it reminds me of Hebrews 12:2 which speaks about looking unto Jesus, the author, and finisher of our faith.

Jesus must be the foundation of our lives and as we know that the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, Jesus is the Word, hence pointing us back to the Word that is to build us up.

Wisdom will build, understanding will establish and knowledge will fill our lives with good things.

We are a building for God and all we need to complete this building perfectly is in His Word. Our lives must draw people to Him and be a signboard that points them to Jesus. How do we then point people to Jesus without knowing Him?

This explains the need for a relationship with the builder so that He can guide us to do the things that would make us (the building) complete.
