Ordered Steps

Ordered Steps

Psalm 37:23 The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, And He delights in his way.

It is very crucial that in these times, our steps are ordered by God. Because we don’t know what tomorrow brings, we need God to lead us daily in divine alignment with His purpose for our lives.

In the opening scripture, any good man qualifies to receive ordered steps but Romans 3:10 says, “As it is written: there is no one righteous, not even one;”. However, anyone that accepts Jesus has received the righteousness God gives, hence we are qualified to receive ordered steps.

We are usually in a hurry to pray for material things compared to this kind of prayer. If God should order our steps, He would not lead us into poverty, sickness, shame, and all kinds of negative things we are trying so hard to avoid.

So instead of praying for a spouse, why not ask that God orders your steps because if He does, you are sure to see beautiful things happen.

In Jeremiah 29:11, He says He knows the plans He has for us. They are plans of good and not of evil. So if God’s plans are good, when our steps are ordered by Him, He wouldn’t lead us into evil.

Another way I call this is interrupted plans. One of the prayers I pray is that God should interrupt my plans. I may be planning to do something which would not end well and so if God comes in and does what is best for me, that is better.

Proverbs 16:9 says, “A man’s heart plans his way, But the Lord directs his steps.” One thing worthy of notice is that you could actually oppose God’s way of interrupting your plans. There is always that crossroad we get to, which places before us God’s way and our way.

What we decide is final so even though God has provided you the instruction on what to do and where to go, the onus lies on you. I remember when I was about to go to high school, I chose a girls’ school and ended up getting a mixed school. When I was choosing my first-choice school, I had the intuition to choose the school I ended up getting but I did not choose it.

So God gave me an instruction and then I disobeyed. By the time results were out with our schools, I got this school and wondered how it happened. God had interrupted my plans.

After I got admission to this school, which I didn’t like, my uncle’s wife offered to change the school for me since she knew the headmistress of the school I had initially chosen but didn’t get into. I could have accepted that and lost out on God’s plan for me at the high school I eventually attended. So it’s not that the other school was bad, it was just not suitable for where God is taking me. Every detail of our lives is important. From where you live, to which school you study at, who to marry, course to read, God has a plan. You don’t do stuff because everyone is doing it. Do what God has in mind. And how do you know His mind? Be led by Him.

Psalm 119: 105 Your word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path. Verse 11 Thy Word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.

So we’d not go a different route when we have the Word to guide us.
